General Moving Checklist
In case you didn’t know this, moving can be very chaotic. It’s very easy to have things get lost in translation to all that goes into uprooting your life into a new home. When leaving your old home, there are some easy-to-overlook items that can help you save time and be more efficient with your efforts.
Here are some basic tips on getting ready to buy your home
- Get pre-approved.
- Get a good realtor to help in your search and listen to them.
- Buy when you’re ready.
- Discard Items. Sort unwanted items into piles for garage sale, donate, trash, etc.
- Select a moving company, reserve a rental truck, or get your family and/or friends to help.
- Pack similar items together to make life easier when you unpack.
- Contacts to make prior to moving with address change:
- Utilities
- Cable
- Post Office
- Bank
- All subscriptions
- Decide which items you would like to move on your own. Wrap your delicate items with bubble wrap or other packing material so it is safe and secure.
- Label boxes on each side and use color coded labels indicating which room the box will be delivered to. Provide a color-coded floor plan for the movers.
- Keep all moving documents together in a file and keep it with you on moving day. Include vital contact information, keys, codes, etc. Remember to keep all moving related documents and receipts as they may be tax deductible.
